This site is a privately owned and operated Blog site. The site is not affiliated with the US government or military and any links are not endorsed only available for the convenience of the readers.
The philosophy is very simple and basic, Provide support and encouragement to the soldiers, and families and friends of those serving at Summerall.
I am the mother of a soldier with the 1/505 PIR.
The site was started more than a year ago by the mom of a soldier who had been stationed at Camp Summerall. She started the site with the same philosophy and we hope to pass the site along if required and sooner rather than later shut it down when Summerall is empty!
The site averages about 1800 hits a day, and has had a high of 10,000, we are approaching 140,000 hits since the site started.
I will not post any political or command information. This includes troop movements, casualty reporting, criticism, etc. There are thousands of blog sites for those wishing this type of outlet.
I will post troop support, tributes (once info is publicly released) and family related info.
To note: I don't want to delete any comments, however I want to be sensitive to the readers that may be upset by some comments that are posted and reserve the right to be the final mediator.
well the rakkasans are heading your way, welcome them...these are the real heros!

My husband and I operate an employment agency in Bozeman, Montana. Our son, Pvt. David Koopman, has recently been stationed at Summerall, having been moved there from Gaines Mills FOB. He is part of a small radar unit (the 231st TAD), trained and based at Ft. Sill, OK. David is the youngest of our 4 kids, and the only boy. He enlisted in the Army almost a year ago -- Thanksgiving 2004. He calls and e-mails us when he can. We would appreciate helpful ideas from other soldiers' families about ways we can encourage our son, and what items he might find useful "over there." Thanks!

Your son, David, is in the same unit as our son, Chad (Spc Chad Pulsney). This is Chad's second tour. He was with the 231st back in '03, and like David, he is our youngest. I can't say for sure what David's wants or needs are regarding packages, but Chad's varies. He has asked for Deep Woods Off, for Neomycin for bites, for coffee, or microwavable food items. He usually asks for hobby items, though. His particular requests in that category are guitar strings, music, etc. Most of all, I think he likes pictures from home. I'm sure they're all alike in that regard. Everyone loves to have a little piece of home wherever they are. God bless your son and all the others.

Our son SPC Rick Gibson, with the 303rd MP company out of Jackson, MI has just arrived at Summerall.
I want to thank this sight for giving my husband and I what it looks like there and especially for the things he mighty want or need for the next 12 months.
God Bless All our Men & Women, and may they all come home safe and soon.

I was assigned as the Information Operations Officer with TF Dragoon at FOB Summerall from Dec 04 - OCT 05. During our TF's tenure at FOB Summerall we erected a memorial outside the old Air Traffic Control Tower (our TOC). I am looking for any current pictures of the memorial or even if it is still standing. I would appreciate any assistance. My unit is looking to create a replica of it for the military museum in Pennsylvania. Thanks for any assistance. My email is leo.j.ciaramitaro@us.army.mil

My son Christopher King is stationed at Camp Summerall also, from the 82nd Airborne Divsion I505. I and so grateful to read message from all parents who have a son stationed in Iraq. This has to be the most difficult year that I have ever faced. My prayers are with all the brave young men stationed over there along with all of the families.

My brother Mark will be arriving June 8th 2007, any helpful info of what would be helpful in this weather over the summer

Sue,
My son is probably at Benning w/your brother, preparing to ship, as they are going at the same time. Last weather check I did showed this week's daytime temps in the dustbowl to be around 113F...uh, can you say HOT????
The best advice is water, water, water. Never refuse to drink, heat stress injuries are sneaky buggers. They'll get you before you know it!
Keep the feet clean and dry! I got a foot fungus there that took literally 15 YEARS to get rid of...and all my toenails fell off...really nasty!
Keep those nooks and crannies as clean as possible...see above nasty fungus...didn't get that, but an ounce of prevention.....
A good cornstarch-based powder (like Shower to Shower) is nice, and aids in comfort. Baby powder sucks, as talc cakes up and is a mess. Alcohol free wipes are great - alcohol based are too drying (and may not be allowed in a Muslim area). Sunscreen - definitely!
It's all basically common sense stuff.
I'm a Desert Shield/Storm vet, so I've been in the dustbowl, and have a clue.
