Karen,

Great myspace layout. I sent you some pictures of Iraq to your yahoo account. Enjoy! Nice chatting with you.

Vicky-TJ's MOM

Hi Karen,
My son Tj is with the 303rd from michigan he is 20 yrs old and he has been an mp for only one year, he is not going to be recieving his gift box till after christmas this year. I found the web site by doing a search of fob summerall. My son has been very quite on the phone and I can tell that he is scared. Is there anything I can say or do????

debbiek

Vicky,
I would guess that most of the guys there are scared. That is to be expected, but they are well trained and will do their jobs regardless. Your son is very young, as most of them are; also this is probably his first deployment. They have not been there very long to begin to get settled. As he acclimates he will most likely become less scared sounding. In the meantime, just do the normal stuff, let him know how much you love him and how proud you are of him. As soon as you get an address for him, start sending cards, letters and packages to him. I hope this is of some help to you.

Elaine & Others I FOUND THE CHEAPER PHONE CARDS THEY CAN GET TO CALL US FROM IRAQ FOR 4 cents per minute. Here is the link:
http://oif.spawareurope.net/

At this link you can actually open the account & buy the minutes for your son & then just give him the card # when u talk to him.

https://app1.idt.net/debit/openband/account/login.aspx

Hope this helps & saves on the phone calls. They do have these internet cafe's with the spawar available at FOB Summerall.

Janie

Karen, I googled Bayji and came up with this site. Like most mom's I was looking for anything to connect me to my son. He enlisted in Jan. 05, so he has almost 2 years in, and this is his first deployment. Thank you for posting the poem The Sands of Christmas, I had never seen that one before. Of course I was reaching for the kleenex, I really should buy stock in that company!! I could be rich by the time Adam comes back!! LOL
Janie

Lori

Another one checking in with the 303rd! my husband has been with the 303rd for 4 years, but this is our first deployment.
I found this site awhile ago, but just noticed today that it has been updated; big thanks to Deb and Karen! I will let others know about this site!

Mary

Hi Lori,
So how are you doing with your first deployment? Do you go
to the FRG meetings in Jackson? I don't think we've met.
Hope you are hearing from your husband. The calls may be few and far between, but its wonderful to hear their voice every time. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and keep the
prayers going for all of our soldiers.
Loved the poems Karen. Thanks

vickt

Thanks for the advice, I just shipped my first box and hope that he will be able to get it this yr.

Karen

Hi Janie, Glad that you did find the site!!! I didn't post that poem, Debbie did but they are good ones. I hope our son is able to call this week along with everyone elses. I can't believe Christmas is already here. When you have a loved one deployed its tough to slow down & enjoy the actual holidays' - i myself seem to rush them all thru until its time for them to come home. I did the same when my husband was deployed for a year & now its my son. Well i hope everyone is all set for Christmas. Do you we have any bakers that have any great recipes? I am making almond cookies tomorrow & also candy cane cookies. Karen :)

Mary

Hi Karen and all! My name is Mary, I know Karen from another group. My son is with HHC 1/505. This is his fourth deployment to the area, sad but it is starting to feel like a normal part of life. I hate that! I am happy for the site, it is nice. Mary

Lori

Hi Mary, I do go to the FRG meetings, but I missed the Christmas party because I am over on the other side of the state, and the weather was pretty bad that day over here. I am also a phone tree gal. I don't think we have ever officially met, but I think I know who I am talking to right now! The first deployment is tough! Christmas can come and go as fast as it wants, as far as I am concerned. This is harder than I expected, but I have a great circle of family and "army sisters." But I live for those phone calls! Take care and everyone have a safe and happy holiday and enjoy your time with your families!

Mary

Hey Lori, No I don't think we have officially met. Make sure we do at the next meeting. This is my second deployment. The first my husband went to GTMO. Was gone at
Christmas then too. Its really tough, but like you said family and friends help.
Merry Christmas everyone and I hope we all get a phone call from our soldiers.

Karen

"My son is in A co and has been at Summerall since Aug. 06" quoted from Kathy B

Hi Kathy B- Scott Jr is in the same company as Kevin. Have you heard from him lately? I haven't heard from Scott Jr since last Sun night. I'm hoping they will be able to call on or close to Christmas but i'm sure the lines will be horrible. Scott Jr hates lines. I think they also get two days at Christmas where they can get free phone calls but i'm sure those phone lines will be really huge. I am missing him so much - it seems to quiet around here w/out him, he loves Christmas & family. His little brother who is 6 has been crying lately saying he misses Scott. In his 1st grade class yesterday they made presents to give to their mom & dad's but his teacher told me that he wanted to give it to his brother Scott in Iraq. I thought that was so nice of him to do for his big brother. They are best buddies. Well keeping them all in my prayers & also praying we all get phone calls near to Christmas & New Years. Karen :)

Karen

Hi Denise, glad you liked my myspace. I'm not sure if i had the updated pictures on it yet but I updated the site with some new pictures the other day. Thanks so much for sending the pictures from Iraq. Would you mind if we posted any on this site if I am able to do so? I love pics so I was very happy to receive those. If Scott Jr ever sends any home to us like he keeps saying he's going to i'll share them too. Hugs, Karen

Karen

Hi Vicky(Tj's mom)- Vicky my son Scott Jr has only been in the infantry one year as well & is 19. He just turned 19 actually they day they left for Kuwait then on to Iraq. Alot of them are pretty quiet on the phone. Sometimes i just think its cuz they can't say too much of what they are doing when they call or they just don't know what to say. When Scott Jr calls i don't ask him things of what is going on there. He knows what is going on there & calls home to hear how things are going on here cuz he misses us & home. So we talk about things like the weather here, his little brother, the dogs etc. Sometimes he will say things that he's doing like going on another mission or not getting much sleep or that it is cold there now (i sent him a nice soft blanket) hehe. So just be there when TJ calls & if he doesn't talk much then you talk & i'd try to keep it upbeat stuff. Its good they call home so we want them to keep calling home. Also you can send him cards or little goodie pkgs too to cheer him & know things from home are coming his way. Scott Jr had asked for family pictures & not online - he wanted paper pics to be able to look at in his room. Let us know how TJ is doing when he calls again & i'm sure his pkg will get to him pretty quick. They seem to be going very well this year. Does TJ have any younger siblings? Hang in there & prayers going out for TJ & your family. Hugs, Karen :)

Karen

Hi Lori, glad you came back to check out the site again & will pass on the word. Its sooooooooooooo nice to chat with others with son's & husbands at Summerall. You have a Happy Holiday as well Lori. Is your son with the 303MP or the 1-505? Karen :)

Karen

Hi Mary with son in 1-505,

OH NO - there are two Mary's so one has husband in 303MP's & one has son in 1-505 INF Maybe one of you can put a last initial in your name siggy or else put your (soldiers name too).

Mary 1-505, Yay! I'm glad you found this site. Its great to chat with other mom's & wives. How are you doing? I haven't heard from Scott Jr since last Sun. I think they had a mission last week. Hugs, Karen

Kathy B.

Karen - Oh Happy Day. Received a call from Kevin this AM in church **LOUD** disrupted the entire service, but if THEY only knew who was on the other end - - ( i forgot to silence it) I just had this feeling he would call today. Likewise, we hadn't heard from him since last Sunday. So today, Christmas Eve is a GREAT DAY. For many reasons of course. It was great to hear from him and despite the usual cold and exhausted...........his spirit was good. I love and cherish phone calls because they are like magic, and the best source of "re-charge" on both ends. Your son Scott Jr. is one of the young ones. Kevin is 22 and I thought HE was young. I'll try to remember to ask Kevin if he knows Scott. He probably won't know his first name......they never call each other by that! My deepest prayer is that you also hear from your son. It will make Christmas that much brighter!!!!! We are on the road traveling during Christmas and listening to Sirius radio and just wanted to share that so many people called in to wish the troops a very Merry Christmas and thanked them for their service and commitment. Needless to say, I was teary eyed the whole trip from Texas to Florida. Wishing you and all the families with loved ones serving..........a VERY MERYY CHRISTMAS.

Karen

Hi Kathy B. - YAY!!!! That is awesome news you heard from Kevin. What a great xmas present & that's funny about being in church when he called but glad you got the call & didn't miss it. We haven't heard from Scott since last Sunday & no call on xmas eve or today. Kind of bummed. I'm sure he'll call soon though. We had all our kids here at our house today & grandkids too (we have 3) and my mom & my hubby's parents for dinner. It was nice all being together. We missed Scott Jr alot & were praying for his safety and for a phone call. I hope that you have safe travels & a nice Christmas & Happy New Year. Hugs, Karen

vicky

Well I got a phone call too on christmas eve am....at 5:44am, He did actually tell me that he was super cold and that he has bought a TV for 70 bucks, my son did not know anybody I asked him about he says last names only so anyway he said he does not want to re-enlist and says he is coming home and getting out of the army, He told me he needs a Hammer to build stuff in his bunk??? TJ does have two younger brothers, he reassurred me that he was ok and just wants to be done and come home that he misses us.It was so good to hear his voice!!!

Karen

Hi Vicky, glad to hear that he called. For some the Army is not a way of life, for others it is. At least he knows what he wants. :) He must be missing home alot. I did end up getting a two line message on my myspace from Scott Jr when i woke up this am. He said he was on Detail & security over xmas & he'd try to call today. I hope he gets a chance. Scott Jr built stuff in his room too out of wood so that's probably why your son wants the hammer. Many of them have built things. Scott Jr built a table in his room & a chair. That is great he called though & you got to hear his voice. So glad to hear that. Hugs, Karen

Denise

Karen

My son Donald IM'd me this morning. I didn't get to hear from him yesterday but he said they would be busy on Xmas. I asked him if he knew Scott. He said "Kinda, he's in 3rd platoon. Donald is in 1st platoon. They are doing good and were able to have a good dinner yesterday. I hope Scott gets to call you. Have a great day.

Mary

I heard from my husband on Sunday afternoon, then he got up at 1am and called his parents while his whole family was there. He got to talk to everyone. That really made them all feel better. Me too. Its always good to hear their voices. He says all is going well and he's fine also. I heard that alot of soldiers are building, I know a couple soldiers from the 303rd built a deck and are building one for the guys next door and connecting them. I hope everyone gets to talk to their soldier over the holidays. I know they are all homesick and love to hear their families voices also.
I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas as much as they could.
Take care all and Happy New Year.
Mary (303rd 1SG's wife)

vicky TJ's mom

Mary 303rd
wow they are building a deck huh....that is good to hear, my son didn't tell me what he was building, he just said an industrial size hammer.....so now my question is that a specific size...LOL I am going to send him one and hope it is the right size..???

Karen

Hi Denise, Yes Scott is in the 3rd platoon. He did im today but we were at the animal hospital (our 7 mo old boxer is having surgery on a broken leg tomorrow) so we missed it. We had our home phone forwarded to our cell phone but for some reason our darn cell phone had set to silent so we also missed his call. He said he's been on detail & security & was sorry he didn't get to call yesterday & he sounded EXTREMELY EXHAUSTED. He also sent me a msg on myspace. I wish we were able to talk to him. That's great that you heard from Donald too. It was a tough Christmas for many of us i'm sure w/out our soldiers at home. Hugs, Karen
